What should I wear?

I recommend you wear something loose-fitting, comfortable and easy to remove if needed for your appointment. This will allow me to easily access areas of the body that require treatment. It is best to avoid tight-fitting clothes that may make it difficult to perform techniques we may need.

Please keep your underwear on throughout your appointment. You will never be asked to undress beyond a level you are comfortable with.

If you prefer, bringing shorts and a vest top can make examination and treatment easier while keeping you comfortable.

Is osteopathy painful?

Osteopathy is generally very safe, and we work within your pain tolerance. Techniques may involve stretching and articulation of soft tissues - muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and bones. The techniques are performed sensitively, gently and should not cause significant discomfort.

Post-treatment, some people do experience mild soreness, similar to 'DOMS' after doing a big workout, but this shouldn't last more than 24-48 hours.

Please be assured that as a registered Osteopath, I have undergone many years of training for my degree, including over 1000 hours working under supervision in student clinics in Stoke-on-Trent and Derby University. This has prepared me for working with people of all ages, shapes and sizes, ethnicities, and levels of pain.

My training includes assessment and screening to identify when particular techniques may not be appropriate and when further medical assessment or referral may be needed.

Are osteopaths regulated?

Yes!

All osteopaths in the UK are regulated by GOsC - the General Osteopathic Council. It is against the law for anyone to call themselves an osteopath unless they are registered with GOsC.

Osteopaths are also recognised as Allied Health Professionals working alongside  GPs, physiotherapists, and within the NHS.

GOsC sets very high training and continued development standards to ensure each osteopath has a high level of competency and conducts examinations and treatments safely and professionally.

My GOsC Registration Number is: 12286

Do I need to be referred by my GP?

No. You do not normally need a GP referral to see an osteopath and can contact the clinic directly.

In some circumstances, I may recommend that you speak to your GP or another healthcare professional, and with your consent, I can communicate with them where appropriate.

However, it is always a good idea to inform your GP if you seek treatment from any healthcare practitioner.

GOsC recommends patients notify their GP and provide updates on their progress.

Cancellation Policy

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment. This allows me to offer the appointment to another patient who may be waiting for treatment.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice or completely missed appointments may incur a £25 fee.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late,  there may not be enough time remaining for your appointment, and I may be unable to see you. In these circumstances, the £25 fee may still apply.

Cancellations can be made by telephone, text message or email.

What can I expect from osteopathic treatment?

Everyone responds to osteopathic treatment differently, depending on their condition and individual circumstances.

Many patients notice improvements in pain, stiffness and movement, although some may experience mild soreness for 24–48 hours after treatment, similar to post-exercise aches.

Treatment may include hands-on techniques, advice, and exercises tailored to your needs. While some people feel better after their first appointment, others may require several treatments. Your care will be regularly reviewed to help you achieve the best possible outcome.
